Tirokafteri Recipe (Feta Dip)

This creamy classic Greek Dip is a favourite mezze dish. It combines the tanginess and heat of chilli pepper to create a rich and intense taste experience. Take a large portion of the thick spread and top it with a piece of feta. You will feel your eyes roll to the back of your skull as the thick spread oozes onto the surface of your tongue.

What is Tirokafteri?

Tirokafteri, also known as Kapiti or tipi in Greece, is a Greek-inspired creamy soft cheese dip. The traditional recipe combines soft white cheese (often feta cheese) and a variety of classic Mediterranean ingredients like peppers, Greek Yogurt, and olive oil.

This creamy, rich Dip is a popular choice for a mezze platter. It can be enjoyed on freshly baked pita bread with lots of grilled meats, vegetables, and a variety of other grilled foods.

Ingredients

First, prepare the following ingredients to make our Greek tirokafteri Greek Dip:

Feta Cheese 10.5 oz (3300g, approximately 2 and 1/3 cups when crushed)

Red Bell Pepper – 1 small red pepper, roasted

Greek Yogurt – 1/3 cup full-fat greek Yogurt

Chili Pepper – 1/2 mild chilli pepper that can be optionally roasted

Extra Virgin Olive Oil – 3 Tbsp

Garlic 1 Garlic clove

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1- Chop the feta.

You can use a jarred roasted pepper or fresh chilli pepper if you need to make this recipe quickly. If that is the case, you can move on to step 3.

Step 2 – (Optional Roast the Peppers.

We decided to roast the peppers at our home. To roast your peppers at home, heat the oven to 220°C (430°F). Place the peppers in a baking dish. Drizzle olive oil on the peppers and bake for 20-30 minutes. The bell peppers will take about 25-30 minutes. Allow them to cool, then peel them.

Step 3 Blend the roasted red pepper, half the chilli pepper (without the seeds), minced ginger, and yoghurt with a blender, food processor or immersion blender.

Step 4 Using a spatula, combine the pepper-yogurt mix with the olive oil.

Step 5 Add the feta cheese and mix it with the spatula.

Once the Dip is ready, place it on a plate or bowl. Drizzle with olive oil and serve with fresh pita bread.

This Greek food is simple and delicious. Tirokafteri is full of classic Mediterranean flavours. Each thick, creamy mouthful treats you to a delicate balance of saltiness, tanginess, and heat. This Dip is a crowd-pleaser and makes a great addition to a large spread or feast.
