Yee-haw! Bringing a little one into the world soon? Need help planning your western themed shower food? Decorations can’t do all the work in setting the mood for your event. Having a theme inspired menu is perfect to get you guests really into this memorable occasion.

Whether you have selected this theme because it fits the mother-to-be’s personality, or you just think it will be fun, a western themed shower has a laid-back and country style. When it comes to the baby shower food it becomes even easier. A buffet style meal or appetizer display would fit perfectly with this theme. Some country background music will go perfectly with your southern inspired meals.

Ideas for table decorations:

  • Cactus
  • Western figurines (horses, cowboys, etc.)
  • Tie bandanas around bowls
  • A bowl in an upside down hat for dip

Before you serve the main meal, some delectable snacks to have around:

  • Chips
  • Salsa
  • Pigs in a blanket
  • Quesadillas
  • Potato skins

One idea for the main meal, if you’re having you shower outside would be a barbeque. A western styled baby shower would work wonders in the rustic outdoors. Have some tables set up outside with bales of hay scattered around for seating. If your shower is indoors, a barbeque might not be ideal, but you can still involve bales of hay. On the appetizer table or dessert display you could scatter hay. Serving a steak, potato and vegetable stew out of a big metal pot with a metal ladle would suit the theme well. The western themed shower is virtually limitless on the foods you can serve.

Try some of these:

  • Chili
  • Baked beans
  • Hotdogs
  • Hamburgers
  • Cornbread
  • Baked potatoes
  • Steak stew
  • Mini tacos
  • Southern styled egg rolls

Can’t think of what drinks to serve at your western baby shower? Since punch is the baby shower staple drink, consider serving it out of a metal bowl, or tie some fake barbed wire around a glass one. Instead of letting your guests drink out of glasses or plastic cups, use mason jars, this will scream western better than some dainty punch glass. You could even bring in some old fashioned looking soda bottles. Some pitchers of lemonade and iced tea would add variety and tie in perfectly.

The food for western themed baby showers gets even better with dessert. Everyone loves pie. Most local grocery store sell pie, sometimes they even have them in a miniature size. A nice dessert display could have a few large pies, or a dozen different flavors of mini ones. By the time you reach getting the dessert, your budget is probably getting a little limited. Making a western cake is simple! Run to your local dollar store and pick up some children’s western figurines. Then all you need to do is dye some frosting green with food coloring. Frost whatever sized cake you desire and then create a western scene, maybe a cowboy and a cowgirl or two horses running side by side. The mother-to-be isn’t a cake fan? Grab some western cookie cutters and make some cookies!
